COSCO introduces customised services and new routes for auto exports from China

As the number of customers exporting vehicles continues to rise, COSCO SHIPPING Lines said it is working closely with car manufacturers to offer customised services and establish new routes.

Earlier in July, the first batch of 152 Dolphin electric vehicles produced by a BYD factory in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province, and carried by COSCO SHIPPING Lines were containerised and loaded on board after undergoing long-distance transportation and customs clearance.

The ship departed from Yantian Port for Europe.

Following more than a month of planning and preparation, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Huanan) leveraged the new BYD factory in Fuzhou as a pilot effort to expand its long-distance vehicle transportation business.

“This move enabled the company to establish a full-chain service model that includes long-distance consignment as an innovative feature to ensure the stable operation of the BYD project. Moreover, it marks the first step made by COSCO SHIPPING to build a NEV export network in Shenzhen,” said the company in an announcement.

The new long-distance truck delivery service, which serves as the initial stage of the entire logistics chain, involves multiple connections with the customer, truck fleet, and warehouse, noted COSCO.

Additionally on 30 June, a special block train jointly launched by COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Wuhan), Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Jiangjin Luohuang Lingang Industrial City departed from Xiaonanya Station in Jiangjin District of Chongqing with 117 Dongfeng vehicles. The train will be operating along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

COSCO said this is another initiative it took to facilitate the export of China-made commodities. In this project, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Wuhan) developed a comprehensive logistics and transportation plan for Dongfeng Motor, with stops at Wuhan, Chongqing Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Qinzhou, and the Middle East.

Through this project, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Wuhan) has expanded its business chain in both directions, successfully providing a comprehensive range of services, including cargo containerisation and reinforcement, transfer of heavy containers, delivery of railway freight, and loading of ships.
