COSCO general cargo vessels to call ICTSI’s Contecon Guayaquil

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA), the Ecuadorian branch of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has entered into a noteworthy agreement with COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers.

This partnership will see COSCO’s general cargo ships managed at the Port of Guayaquil for the next three years.

This collaboration supports CGSA’s goals of broadening its client base, setting new regional service standards, and solidifying the Port of Guayaquil’s role as Ecuador’s premier logistics hub. Since the start of the year, CGSA has handled six COSCO vessels and expects to manage at least one vessel per month from now on.

COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a segment of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, oversees a fleet of over 100 vessels, including multipurpose and heavy lift ships, semi-submersible vessels, and carriers for automobiles, logs, and asphalt. This extensive fleet, the largest of its kind globally, positions COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers as a leading force in maritime transport worldwide.

“Our commitment to innovation, outstanding customer service, and sustainable development in the port sector is stronger than ever. Moreover, our handling of project cargo plays a crucial role in supporting major investment projects across the country, significantly boosting economic growth and advancing regional port infrastructure,” stated Javier Lancha, CGSA CEO.
