Contship New escapes pirates but threat still high

An attack on the 1,080TEU vessel Contship New on 23 April was foiled when security forces arrived with the crew secure in the citadel according to security firm Dryad Global.

The vessel continued on its journey under escort following the attack on the ship, however, Dryad Global has warned that there remains a very high level of risk in the West Africa region.

Munro Anderson from Dryad Global told Container News, that vessels and their crew should remain vigilant in the area. “With two sightings of fast-moving boats in the region the intent for an attack remains there and it is likely another attack is imminent.”
