Contecon Manzanillo, International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in the Port of Manzanillo, has boosted its global connectivity with the launch of WAN HAI Lines’ Asia–South America West Coast 2 (WSA2) service. The service made its first call on August 11 with the arrival of the WAN HAI A16.
Also known as the Asia–South America (ASA) service, WSA2 is jointly operated by Pacific International Lines, Evergreen Marine Corp. and COSCO Shipping Lines with 11 vessels in rotation. The weekly service connects key Asian hubs such as Kaohsiung, Shekou, Hong Kong, Ningbo and Shanghai with ports along Latin America’s west coast, including Manzanillo, Callao and Guayaquil.
“The arrival of WSA2 is another milestone in our expansion strategy and strengthens Manzanillo’s role as a logistics hub,” said José Antonio Contreras, CEO of Contecon Manzanillo.
The service has been operating in Manzanillo for nearly 20 years but shifted to Contecon following the terminal’s recent expansion, which included the deployment of Latin America’s largest ship-to-shore cranes. Backed by this upgraded infrastructure, the WSA2 offers faster transit times, improved efficiency and more direct links to Asia, enhancing Mexico’s foreign trade options.
