Contargo starts new rail service between Antwerp and Frankfurt

On 4 April, the German rail operator Contargo launched a new direct rail service, connecting the German city of Frankfurt with the Port of Antwerp.

The shuttle starts with a fixed schedule and one round trip per week, with container trains departing every Monday from Frankfurt Höchst, and reaching the Belgian port one day later, on gateway Q1700 and the PSA container terminals Q913 and Q869.

The frequency of the train service is planned to be increased “after a successful phase,” according to the port of Antwerp. It is also anticipated to enable the container hinterland logistics network to provide even more flexible transport options at the Frankfurt location.

“With the Frankfurt–Antwerp Shuttle, we offer shippers from the region and adjoining areas an excellent alternative for accessing the Port of Antwerp,” stated Kawus Khederzadeh, managing director of Contargo Industriepark Frankfurt-Höchst.

“The connection makes sense both economically and ecologically, and it is a good complement to our combined transport by barge,” added Khederzadeh.

At the same time, the Contargo is also extending the frequency of its Frankfurt–Rotterdam shuttle from two to three round trips per week.
