Contargo has taken a major step toward decarbonisation by adding 33 new battery-electric DAF XD Electric semi-trailer tractors to its fleet.

The trucks are now in operation at 15 locations across Germany. With these additions, Contargo now operates 90 electric trucks in total. The company has also completed all e-truck projects approved under the KsNI funding programme. At the same time, it continues to expand charging infrastructure at its sites.

Each DAF XD Electric truck is powered by a 350 kW electric motor. The vehicles use five lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs. These batteries contain no cobalt or nickel, offer a long service life, and can be fully charged without restrictions.

Contargo is integrating the new vehicles into its existing fleets and will mainly use them for last-mile transport in combined container operations.

A total of 86 of the 90 electric trucks, along with the required charging infrastructure, received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) under the KsNI programme. NOW GmbH coordinates the funding, and the Federal Logistics and Mobility Office (BALM) approved the applications.
