Container volumes fall at port of Melbourne

Total container volumes at the port of Melbourne fell by 18.4% year-on-year in February, reaching a total of 219,606 TEUs.

According to the Australian port’s data, full overseas imports dropped by 28.9% in February, compared with the same month last year, with miscellaneous manufacturers, furniture, metal manufacturers, domestic appliances, textiles, and paperboard, all below last year’s levels.

Furthermore, full overseas exports declined by 4.4% on February 2022, with hay & fodder, pulp & wastepaper, and dried milk all below last year’s levels.

Last but not least, port of Melbourne’s total empty box movements were 21.1% lower than in February 2022.
