Container throughput at Ishikari Bay New Port falls 2.6% in 2025

Container throughput at Ishikari Bay New Port in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido declined in 2025, reported by JIFFA, according to preliminary figures unveiled by the Ishikari Bay New Port Authority.

The port handled 47,281 TEUs of foreign-trade containers during the year, representing a 2.6% decrease compared with the previous calendar year.

Exports totaled 22,873 TEUs, down 4.3%, while imports reached 24,408 TEUs, a 1% decline year on year.

Among export cargoes, recycled materials amounted to 2,376 TEUs, down 4.3%, followed by fishery products at 1,589 TEUs, a decrease of 5.1%. Auto parts and components rose 18% to 988 TEUs.

On the import side, wood products totaled 7,096 TEUs, up 1.7%. Furniture imports stood at 3,186 TEUs, down 5.7%, while other daily necessities accounted for 2,803 TEUs, a decline of 5.9%.
