Global container spot rates climbed for a third week. The Drewry World Container Index rose 4% to $1,822 per FEU in Week 44, though still 43% lower than last year.
Asia–US routes drove the uptick. Rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles increased 6% to $2,438 per FEU. Shanghai–New York rates rose 4% to $3,568 per FEU. Drewry expects another small rise next week after recent general rate increases, but forecasts a quick downturn afterward.
Asia–Europe lanes also firmed. Shanghai–Rotterdam rates gained 3% to $1,795 per FEU, and Shanghai–Genoa jumped 5% to $1,955 per FEU. Carriers are pushing freight-all-kinds increases to support pricing ahead of contract talks.
Transatlantic rates slipped. New York–Rotterdam fell 1% to $846 per FEU, and Rotterdam–New York dropped 2% to $1,678 per FEU.
