Concordia Damen has started a major refit of the dry cargo vessel Hirschhorn for Reederei Deymann, one of Germany’s largest inland shipping operators. The vessel arrived at the yard in Werkendam, where the full transformation is now underway.
The project includes removing the entire aft section and installing a new twin-shaft propulsion system with two fuel-efficient diesel-electric engines. Concordia Damen will also rebuild the accommodation and wheelhouse, improving crew comfort, visibility, and compliance with modern standards.
The refit will extend the vessel’s operational life, boost propulsion efficiency, reduce emissions, and enable shallow-water sailing.
“This project shows how a well-planned refit can give a reliable vessel a new life,” said Bert Duijzer, Technical Director at Concordia Damen. “We are proud to help Reederei Deymann keep their fleet efficient, sustainable, and competitive.”
The upgrade supports Concordia Damen’s strategy to deliver sustainable fleet renewal and cost-efficient modernization solutions for shipowners.
