CONCOR flags off inaugural EXIM container rake to Kolkata port connection by barge to Bangladesh

Adding a new avenue and innovation in its logistics service solutions, Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) MMLP-MIHAN, Mumbai Cluster (Area-II), flagged off its inaugural export import (EXIM) container rake to Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port, Kolkata on 3 February.

The rail movement originates from ICD-MIHAN to SMP, Kolkata, with onward connection on a barge of Maersk Line till Mongla, Bangladesh.

This multimodal solution is designed to improve transit time, reduce supply chain inefficiencies and lead time, promote sustainability and cost efficiency, emphasised a release.

This is an end-to-end solution for container movement from customer factory, including first-mile connectivity, Customs clearance, rail movement and barge connection. It is in collaboration with Maersk Line from CONCOR’s ICD-MIHAN (Nagpur).

After the successful pilot launch of “Project Mishti” in 2021 on a similar barge solution, with this multimodal movement it is expected that it will be a regular service by Maersk from MMLP-MIHAN into Bangladesh and other East Asian countries, according to a statement.

The exporter of the consignment was TransRail, with the commodity being transmission tower parts. CONCOR expects to add many more customers and commodities for this stream in the near future as there is regular export of cargo like transmission tower parts, tractors, cotton yarn, and foodgrains to Bangladesh by various exporters in Nagpur and nearby areas.

The local trade and industry will benefit from this new initiative of CONCOR as they were struggling to get efficient and speedy logistics solutions for their export consignments to Bangladesh, according to a statement.
