Colonna named new President of Long Beach Harbor Commission

Frank Colonna is the new President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners. The five-member board oversees the Port of Long Beach.

Colonna had been serving as Vice President. He’ll take over from outgoing President Bonnie Lowenthal on August 6. Steven Neal was elected Vice President. Sharon L. Weissman will serve as Secretary.

The new officers begin their roles August 6.

“I am honored by the trust my colleagues on the Board have placed in me,” Colonna said. “I look forward to navigating our way through shifting trade policies, building the necessary infrastructure that will keep us competitive and continuing our pursuit to become the first zero-emissions port.”

Colonna has a long history in public service. He served two terms on the Long Beach City Council and was Vice Mayor. He joined the Harbor Commission in 2017. Since then, he’s held the roles of President, Vice President, and Secretary.

The board sets policy for the Port and oversees the Chief Executive Officer. The CEO manages about 550 employees. Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. In 2024, voters approved a change allowing members to serve up to three four-year terms.
