CMA CGM rolls out OneWeb LEO connectivity across fleet

CMA CGM Group has partnered with Marlink and Eutelsat to deploy OneWeb LEO satellite connectivity across its global maritime fleet. The solution integrates Eutelsat’s European-based OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services with existing LEO and GEO networks, creating a multi-orbit, multi-technology hybrid network enabled by Marlink’s XChange NextGen edge platform.

Under the multi-year agreement, more than 300 CMA CGM vessels will receive OneWeb LEO connectivity over the next nine months. The solution combines multiple satellite layers, boosting resilience and delivering high-availability connectivity at a scale unprecedented in the maritime sector.

The upgraded network provides low-latency, high-throughput connectivity to support CMA CGM’s digital transformation. It enables real-time data exchange, operational efficiency, and enhanced services for crews. Vessels can now operate with digital performance comparable to shore-based environments while supporting future digital initiatives.

The connectivity solution also aids CMA CGM’s decarbonisation goals. Real-time optimisation of routes, speeds, and fuel consumption helps reduce emissions and improve efficiency. Marlink’s XChange NextGen platform also provides cyber security, industrial IoT data collection, cloud enablement, and centralized fleet-wide network orchestration, ensuring predictable performance regardless of sailing routes.

CMA CGM, a global player in sea, land, air, and logistics, operates over 650 vessels across 420 ports in 177 countries. The company has been an anchor shareholder of Eutelsat since 2022, reflecting a commitment to reliable, high-performance connectivity and European digital sovereignty.

Ramon Fernandez, CMA CGM Executive Vice President and CFO, said the partnership strengthens the company’s fleet-wide connectivity, supporting operational efficiency, crew welfare, and sustainability objectives. Jean-François Fallacher, CEO of Eutelsat, called it a milestone for OneWeb LEO deployment in maritime. Marlink CEO Erik Ceuppens highlighted the project as a landmark example of delivering advanced digital solutions at global scale.
