CMA CGM reshuffles Algeria services due to Red Sea crisis

CMA CGM has announced changes in several of its services due to the current crisis on the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

“With immediate effect, all cargo bound for Oran, Mostaganem and Ghazaouet, Algeria, will now transit either via Algeciras or via Valencia instead of Tanger,” said the French ocean carrier in a statement.

The Agapome service will stop calling at Tanger port and the new rotation will be Algeciras (Spain) – Ghazaouet (Algeria). The first vessel that will be deployed on the updated rotation will be the Liberia-flagged Contship Cub, which is expected to arrive in Algeciras on 24 January.

In addition, CMA CGM will replace the port of Tanger with the port of Algeciras on its EURONAF service, which will have the following port rotation:

Livorno (Italy) – Genoa (Italy) – Marseille (France) – Valencia (Spain) – Algeciras (Spain) – Oran (Algeria) – Mostaganem (Algeria)

The inaugural boxship on the updated rotation will be the 2008-built Contship Ray, according to CMA CGM’s announcement.

Furthermore, the Marseille-based container line will add the port of Algeciras to the EUROMAR service rotation, which will be as follows:

Tanger (Morocco) – Casablanca (Morocco) – Agadir (Morocco) – Tilbury (United Kingdom) – Rotterdam (Netherlands) – Hamburg (Germany) – Antwerp (Belgium) – Rotterdam (Netherlands) – Le Havre (France) – Vigo (Spain) – Algeciras (Spain)

The 2011-built Contship Gin will be used on the first sailing of the updated service.
