The Port of Gdańsk has welcomed a new weekly service from French carrier CMA CGM, further strengthening its role as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea.
At the end of July, the Enforcer, a 134-meter, Dutch-flagged container ship with a capacity of 750 TEU, made the first call on the new Scandinavia West Coast Express (SWX) service at Baltic Hub. The vessel, built in 2003, inaugurated the rotation connecting Poland with Denmark, Sweden, and Lithuania.
The SWX service links Gothenburg, Aarhus, Klaipėda, and Gdańsk, creating a direct and more sustainable alternative to road transport between Scandinavia and the southern Baltic. It also provides connections to CMA CGM’s Short Sea Services and long-haul Far East services from Gdańsk. The weekly arrivals are scheduled every Sunday, with a four-day transit time between Gdańsk and Gothenburg.
“This means more CMA CGM ships calling at Gdańsk,” said Maksymilian Czapiewski of the Port of Gdańsk. “The carrier has been expanding its presence here, from the Baltic Express feeder launched earlier this year to the French Asia Line 1 (FAL1), which has been calling since August 2023.”
Strategic Role in Global Trade
The Port of Gdańsk now maintains four direct ocean services with Asia, operated by the world’s largest shipping lines. CMA CGM continues to run its FAL1 service with 400-meter megamax vessels on a rotation linking Asia and Europe. In addition, the Ocean Alliance connects Far East ports with Gdańsk through the FAL5/NE1/LL1/AEU1 services.
MSC also operates two independent weekly services to China, South Korea, Vietnam, and other Asian markets.
By securing these long-haul connections, Gdańsk has strengthened its position as a major container hub in the Baltic and a strategic gateway for Central and Eastern Europe.
