CMA CGM and WWF join forces for “greener” shipping and logistics

CMA CGM Group has partnered with the WWF France aiming to “green” the shipping and logistics sectors, fight illicit trafficking in protected species and preserve marine ecosystems.

The French shipping group said this cooperation is in line with its commitment to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This two-year collaboration focuses on three key areas:

– Exemption from carbon emissions in maritime transport and supply chain

– Combating the illicit trafficking of protected species, but also raising awareness to the stakeholders and the industry in general, on this issue and the existing solutions.

– Conservation of marine ecosystems, a goal to be achieved with four CMA CGM-sponsored projects in the Mediterranean, South Africa, the Philippines and the Arctic.

In similar actions in the past, CMA CGM has decided not to use the “Northern Sea Route” in order to preserve the fragile Arctic ecosystems and to stop the transport of plastic waste by sea in order to prevent their export to countries where their processing or recovery is not guaranteed.
