CJ Logistics signs up ONE as strategic partner

CJ Logistics, South Korea’s largest third-party logistics provider, signed a collaboration agreement with Ocean Network Express (ONE) on 3 August, a month after sealing similar pacts with other carriers such as Evergreen Marine Corporation and SM Line.

The liner operators hope to increase cargo volumes through CJ Logistics’ network, while the latter aims to secure competitive freight rates.

CJ Logistics and ONE have also agreed to work together to secure container volumes to and from Asia, and to develop sea-land integrated transportation services. The plan is to jointly develop additional services such as the end-to-end services to deliver containers from shippers to receivers via land and sea.

Particularly, CJ Logistics eyes business from THE Alliance, of which ONE is a member. Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Yang Ming.

The collaboration with ONE means that CJ Logistics has secured links with members of two of the three major container shipping alliances.

In late June, CJ Logistics said it was hoping to gain more cargoes from the Ocean Alliance after signing a similar agreement with alliance member Evergreen. CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, and OOCL are the other alliance members.

CJ Logistics stated that the alliance members are ocean-going liner operators that each have competitive advantages in certain ports and routes. Securing these collaborations therefore mean a wider range of options for CJ Logistics in the global container shipping market, creating an opportunity to enhance its competitiveness.
