CICE Veracruz has joined the Portchain Connect network to modernize its ship-to-shore communication. The terminal will use the digital platform to automate berth alignment with shipping lines, replacing manual data exchange with “digital handshakes.”
The integration allows CICE Veracruz to receive real-time vessel schedules and move count updates directly from carrier systems. By streamlining these data flows, the terminal can respond to schedule changes or counterpropose berthing windows instantly, ensuring the berth plan stays synchronized with actual vessel arrivals.
Enhancing Operational Visibility
The move is designed to eliminate the delays and errors associated with non-digitized communication. With earlier visibility into incoming traffic, the terminal can optimize labor and equipment allocation well before a vessel reaches the pilot station.
“Portchain Connect gives us earlier visibility into vessel schedules and changes,” said Omar Lima Castillo, Director of Port Terminals at CICE. “This allows our team to plan berth operations with more confidence, reduce last-minute adjustments, and support the growth of container volumes at the Port of Veracruz.”
Improving Schedule Reliability
Portchain Connect serves as a bridge between terminal operators and carriers, providing a secure overview of all vessel calls. For the Port of Veracruz, this means:
-
Real-time updates: Direct synchronization with carrier data.
-
Reduced friction: Eliminating manual emails and spreadsheets for berthing.
-
Proactive planning: Better alignment on berthing windows to improve overall schedule reliability.
Thor Thorup, CCO and Co-Founder of Portchain, welcomed the partnership, noting that shared real-time data allows both terminals and carriers to reduce daily operational friction and plan more proactively.
