Chomex Marino orders two Damen offshore support tugs

Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with Chomex Marino to build two Offshore Support Tugs (OST) 120. These tugs were developed to meet the operational requirements of Woodside Energy. The new vessels will support deepwater operations in the Gulf of Mexico, enhancing regional offshore capabilities.

The 67-metre vessels, each with a bollard pull of 120 tonnes and 250m² of deck space, will be built at Albwardy Damen Shipyard in the United Arab Emirates. They are designed for exceptional seakeeping and DP2 performance. Also, this design enables them to handle mooring lines, cargo hoses, tanker assistance, ROV deployment, and oil spill response.

In addition, the OST 120 design also includes the ability to store and transfer chemicals in-field. This can reduce the need for additional supply vessels and lower emissions.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Damen on a design that meets the needs of both Woodside and Chomex Marino,” said Fausto Correa, General Manager of Chomex Marino. “With 100% Mexican crew, we look forward to seeing these vessels strengthen the country’s maritime industry.”

Marnix Brouwer, Area Manager North America at Damen Shipyards, added: “This project marks the introduction of a new class in offshore support. The OST 120 combines versatility and operational efficiency to meet the future needs of offshore operations.”
