CEMS, Drydocks, CSL partner to train India’s maritime workforce

Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS), Drydocks World, and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed a tripartite MoU to develop a skilled, industry-ready maritime workforce in India. The agreement was signed during India Maritime Week 2025, with participation from Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO.

The collaboration aims to position India as a global hub for shipbuilding and repair professionals. It will bridge skill gaps, align training with international standards, and enhance job prospects for trainees in India and abroad. Annual programs will combine theoretical and practical learning using advanced infrastructure across CSL, CEMS, and Drydocks World facilities.

Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, said the initiative strengthens India’s maritime talent pipeline and supports the long-term growth of global shipbuilding.

Mr. Madhu S Nair, CMD of Cochin Shipyard, highlighted that the partnership integrates advanced training with global industry standards to create a capable workforce for domestic and international markets.

Mr. Arun Sharma, Chairman of CEMS, noted the program delivers hands-on, immersive training that equips youth with globally benchmarked skills.

Through this collaboration, India aims to nurture a next-generation maritime workforce that meets the growing demands of the shipbuilding and repair sector while advancing Maritime India Vision 2030.
