Campbell Johnston Clark (CJC) has announced the promotion of Kate Law and Neil Jackson to directors, effective 1 January 2025.
This development brings the total number of partners at the international maritime law firm to 22, spanning offices in London, Newcastle, Singapore, and Miami. The appointments underscore CJC’s commitment to internal growth and coincide with the firm’s 15th anniversary as a leading specialist in maritime law.
According to a statement, CJC’s expertise encompasses marine casualty investigations, shipping litigation, marine insurance, international trade, as well as corporate, transactional, and finance services.
Based in the London office, Kate Law is highly experienced in shipping litigation, particularly in “wet” shipping matters such as collision and salvage claims. Her practice also includes charter party and bill of lading disputes.
Joining CJC as a paralegal after working for an international insurer, Law’s career progression has included roles as a trainee, associate, and managing associate. She also collaborates with the firm’s transactional team, providing guidance on contractual drafting, sale and purchase agreements, ship recycling, MOA disputes, and regulatory matters.
Neil Jackson, based in CJC’s Newcastle office, specializes in a wide array of shipping disputes. Having joined the firm in 2022 from a major marine insurer within the International Group of P&I Clubs, Jackson focuses on dry shipping law, particularly FD&D work.
His areas of expertise include disputes over hire payments, off-hire clauses, suspension/withdrawal, liens, cancellation, speed and consumption issues, redelivery, hold conditions, freight, laytime and demurrage, voyage charter expenses, and off-specification bunkers. With Jackson’s appointment, the Newcastle office now hosts three directors.
The announcement aligns with additional internal advancements at CJC, as Stephen Angove, Debo Fletcher, Chase Alexandra Jansson, Deji Sasegbon, and Harry Savva are set to become managing associates effective 1 January 2025. Additionally, the firm’s London-based shipping litigation team has recently been strengthened with the recruitment of associates Francesca Koenders and Matthew Bennett.
