Cameroon terminal enahnces handling capabilities with new gantries

Kribi Conteneurs Terminal has added to its gantry crane fleet to meet traffic growth.

Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT) received five new yard gantries with a 50-tonne lifting capacity on 10 May aiming to boost the growth in traffic at the Cameroonian port, which has marked a 56.27% increase in volumes during the last year.

The five Konecranes units will optimise the use of the container storage park and improve processing times for trucks unloading and loading containers, and therefore provide KCT with additional handling capacity, according to an announcement by Bolloré Ports, one of the shareholders of the terminal. The other two stakeholders are CMA CGM and China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.

The new equipment is also expected to strengthen KCT’s policy on operational excellence to the benefit of partners, ship owners, road transport firms, and users of the Port of Kribi.

The new machines come after the delivery of a Gottwald mobile crane on 11 April, as “Kribi Conteneurs Terminal is pursuing its investment programme,” said terminal co-ordinator at Bollore Africa Logistics, Eric Lavenu.

Bolloré Ports noted that the company is committed alongside the Autonomous Port to boosting the attractiveness of the Kribi port for Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic.

“With the new equipment, we will help to improve productivity and significantly reduce truck waiting times,” underlined Lavenu who went on to add, “The objective is to be able to serve our loading and unloading customers in the timeliest manner. Working in synergy with the Port Authority, our aim is to boost the competitiveness of the Port of Kribi.”
