Second busiest August in L.A. port’s history

The Port of Los Angeles processed 826,638 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in August 2018, a 2.5 percent dip compared to August 2017, which was the Port’s busiest August to date. It was the second-strongest August in the Port’s history and the sixth busiest month ever at the Port of Los Angeles.

“In addition to being one of our top 10 busiest months, August marked the inauguration of APL’s Eagle Express here in Los Angeles,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “This weekly China to LA service provides an unmatched level of speed to market and is yet another example of our focus on customer service and response to market demand.”

August 2018 imports decreased 2.8 percent to 420,573 TEUs compared to the previous year. Exports increased 2 percent to 162,466 TEUs, while empty containers fell 4.9 percent to 243,600 TEUs. Combined, August overall volumes were 826,638 TEUs.

Eight months into 2018, overall volumes have decreased 2.6 percent to 6 million TEUs compared to 2017 when the Port set an all-time cargo record.
