Boluda Towage expands presence in France with acquisition of Les Abeilles

With a heritage spanning over 150 years, Les Abeilles was established in 1864 and stands as a leading company in the French maritime sector, entrusted by the Marine Nationale for swift response rescue and anti-pollution interventions.

Over the past two decades, the company has successfully conducted more than 200 maritime rescue operations. Bringing its extensive experience to Boluda Towage, Les Abeilles aims to enhance efficiency, safety, and responsiveness in emergency manoeuvres.

Expanding its scope of activities, Les Abeilles is bolstering its “24/365” maritime rescue response capacity, ensuring rapid assistance in adverse weather conditions along the French and Northern European coasts.

Moreover, this acquisition will strengthen Boluda Towage’s ability to address offshore spills, as it is equipped with highly qualified personnel and cutting-edge technology. Additionally, Boluda Towage will emerge as a significant player in the wind energy markets, facilitating the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms.

The acquisition will see the addition of six vessels to Boluda Towage’s fleet, including four tugs, one multipurpose vessel, and one AHTS tug.

Among these, three tugs are stationed along the Canal de la Manche, named Abeille Bourbon (Brest), Abeille Liberté (Cherbourg), and Abeille Normandie (Boulogne-sur-Mer). The Abeille Méditerranée operates from Toulon, in the Mediterranean Sea.

Additionally, the multipurpose vessel Jason (currently located in Toulon) and the AHTS tug Abeille Horizon (based in Cherbourg) will be incorporated into the fleet.

Boluda Towage France will assume management responsibilities, including shore staff and crew, for Les Abeilles, comprising a team of over a hundred skilled professionals.

“Our company, in France and its overseas areas since 2007, is deeply rooted in the region. One of our main characteristics is our strong commitment to create jobs and growth in this
country. We are a centenary family company at a key moment in its history, becoming a world leader in the towage sector. The incorporation of Les Abeilles and its operational experience will be a further step in our growth,” stated Vicente Boluda Fos, chairman of Boluda.
