Boluda buys Finnish harbour towage and icebreaker firm

Global towing services provider Boluda Towage has announced the acquisition of Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering (YHB), a family-owned company that started operating more than 40 years ago in the Finnish port of Kokkola, providing harbour towage and icebreaking services.

YHB will add to Boluda Towage its experience at the forefront of towing operations in the extreme conditions of the Baltic, where ice and low temperatures require knowledge and expertise of expert crews to perform maneuvers safely and efficiently.

With the acquisition, Boluda Towage aims to further consolidate its presence on the coasts of Northern Europe and enter the Scandinavian market to serve its customers in the Gulf of Bothnia, operating in the ports of Kokkola, Vaasa, Raahe and Kemi.

Vicente Boluda Fos, president of Boluda, explains, “This purchase is a further step in our consolidation in Northern Europe, a complex market where the experience and expertise of the crews are key to carrying out towing and marine salvage operations in extreme conditions. In addition, we are opening the Scandinavian market, providing coverage to our customers in the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea.”

Boluda Towage will add six vessels to its fleet, five of them icebreakers.
