BNSF Railway has opened a new 42-acre intermodal facility in Oklahoma City. The project was developed in partnership with Hobby Lobby, which sought a faster and more economical way to move loaded containers from Los Angeles and Long Beach to its distribution centers in Oklahoma.
The facility, set to begin operations in mid-November, is expected to streamline supply chains while cutting highway congestion. At full capacity, the site could remove up to 40,000 truck moves from I-35 each year.
“This expansion shows how we’re listening to our customers and creating solutions that drive growth,” said Jon Gabriel, BNSF Group Vice President of Consumer Products.
Hobby Lobby also welcomed the development. “As we grow, more efficient product movement will help us continue to deliver value to our customers,” said Jon Cargill, the company’s CFO.
Looking ahead, the facility will also serve Oklahoma farmers and other businesses, offering new export opportunities to the West Coast.
