The Bahamas Maritime Authority recently reinforced its leadership in regional maritime affairs by participating in two high-level forums: the 30th Session of the Caribbean Port State Control Committee and the 4th Caribbean Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations Meeting.
Both events were hosted in St. Lucia, bringing together representatives from Caribbean maritime authorities, international observers, and global stakeholders.
The BMA delegation included Captain Dwain Hutchinson, Managing Director & CEO, Captain Frank McNulty and Kenneth Carey, both Technical & Compliance Officers.
They were joined by Senior Commander Berne Wright, Port Controller, reflecting The Bahamas’ active role not only as a flag state, but also as a port and coastal state. This engagement underlines the country’s dedication to regional cooperation and alignment with international maritime standards.
At CPSCC30, the BMA continued its tradition of leadership, notably by chairing the Finance and Administrative Working Group and contributing meaningfully to technical discussions. The meeting was attended by representatives from 17 member states, with observers from six other Port State Control regimes.
The core objective of CPSCC is to eliminate substandard shipping in Caribbean waters through rigorous enforcement of PSC inspections under the Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding.
The BMA’s participation in both the Technical Standing Working Group and the wider committee reflects its firm commitment to raising inspection standards and promoting maritime safety and environmental compliance throughout the region.
Simultaneously, the DIHMAR4 meeting served as a strategic platform for regional maritime leaders to exchange updates from the International Maritime Organization, explore capacity-building initiatives, and strengthen alignment with international maritime conventions.
The agenda also addressed key industry priorities including digitalisation, decarbonisation, maritime security, and regulatory harmonisation.
