Australian box terminal orders new diesel-electric straddle carriers from Konecranes

Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal (FACT) in South Australia has ordered three new diesel-electric Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers.

The new equipment will replace three of the original Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers purchased in 2003, which were the first diesel-electric straddle carriers delivered to Australia.

The new straddle carriers will meet Tier V exhaust emission standards, the highest emission standard in straddle carrier operation, and they will feature Konecranes’ latest improvements in cabin ergonomics and operator vision, according to a statement.

On average, Flinders handles 450,000 TEU per year with its fleet of 23 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers.

“We’ve been using Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers for almost 20 years. We’ve been happy with their performance and maintainability, and Konecranes provides excellent local support. The new machines will give us the latest in eco-efficiency and performance,” commented Shane Haywood, inventory specialist at Flinders Port Holdings.

The order was booked in the second quarter of 2021 and the machines are expected to be delivered in March 2022.
