The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an attack on a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on 11 March 2026.

According to the alert, the incident occurred about 11 nautical miles north of Oman. The vessel was reportedly struck by an unknown projectile, which caused a fire onboard.

The ship requested immediate assistance, and the crew began evacuating the vessel.

UKMTO has advised all ships transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity while authorities investigate the incident.

New information from industry sources indicates that at least three cargo vessels were struck by projectiles in separate incidents across the Strait of Hormuz area, raising further concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

According to the updated reports, the Thailand-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was hit and damaged about 11 nautical miles north of Oman. The vessel issued a distress call after the strike. Thai authorities confirmed that 20 crew members were rescued, while three sailors remain missing.

A second vessel, the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Star Gwyneth, was struck by a projectile about 50 nautical miles north-west of Dubai. The ship reportedly sustained hull damage, though all crew members on board are reported safe.

According to local sources, the Star Gwyneth is a Greek-owned vessel belonging to the shipping company Star Bulk.

A third ship, the Japan-flagged container vessel ONE MAJESTY, operating near the United Arab Emirates, was also reportedly hit by a projectile. The ship sustained minor damage during the incident.

It remains unclear who launched the projectiles or whether the weapons used were drones or missiles. However, Iran has recently claimed control over the shipping lane and warned that vessels transiting the area could become targets.

Meanwhile, the United States said it had destroyed 16 boats in the area amid reports that Iranian forces had begun deploying naval mines in the Strait, further escalating tensions in the region.
