APM Terminals signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh

In a move aimed at transforming Andhra Pradesh into the “Logistics Hub of the East,” the Government of Andhra Pradesh, through the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APM Terminals, part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. The signing, attended by the Honourable Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, marks a key milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen maritime infrastructure and build a globally competitive logistics ecosystem.

The Chief Minister outlined his vision for a dense maritime network along Andhra Pradesh’s 1,053 km coastline, including ports, fishing harbours, and fish landing centres every 50 km, to support international trade and empower coastal communities. Currently, the state operates five non-major ports, with four greenfield ports expected to be operational by 2026.

APM Terminals, which has been active in India since 2004 through Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited and Gateway Terminals India, plans to invest approximately US $1 billion (₹85 billion) under the MoU to develop modernized ports and terminals across the state. The investment is expected to generate 8,000 to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs while stimulating industrial and logistics activity.

“The MoU will focus on establishing state-of-the-art terminals, modernizing ports to international standards, and promoting sustainable, green operations,” said a company spokesperson. APM Terminals will advise on project structures, port development mechanisms, and advanced cargo handling systems, ensuring Andhra Pradesh benefits from global best practices and long-term technical support.

To oversee implementation, a joint working committee between APM Terminals and APMB will be formed by Q3 2025. The partnership reflects the state’s inclusive approach, balancing industrial growth with socio-economic development and reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s ambitions as a major logistics and maritime hub.
