APM Terminals announces leadership changes

Following the decision of the current APM Terminals (AMPT) CEO, Morten Engelstoft, to retire after 36 years in the mother company, AP Moller Maersk, Keith Svendsen, APMT’s current chief operating officer (COO) will take over his duties, effective from 1 July 2022.

Svendsen has been with AP Moller – Maersk since 1990 and holds the title of COO of APM Terminals since 2017. Prior to that, he held several senior positions in China, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Denmark and The Netherland for Maersk Line, Maersk Logistics/Damco and APMT.

Meanwhile, Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, the company’s current executive vice president, will be appointed as the new chairperson.

She has been with AP Moller – Maersk since 1994 where she has held various senior positions in Spain, China, the United States and Denmark for Svitzer, Maersk Tankers, Maersk Oil and Maersk Logistics/Damco.

In addition to the role as chair of APM Terminals, Henriette Hallberg Thygesen will also assume executive board responsibility for safety and resilience, which includes crisis management across the AP Moller – Maersk.

Søren Skou, CEO of AP Moller – Maersk, stated, “I am confident, that Henriette and Keith are the right team to leverage the momentum and lead APM Terminals on the next leg of the journey where our continued focus is on delivering on our automation strategy and on step-changing productivity in Gateway Terminals.” He also emphasised his gratitude for the collaboration with Engelstoft.

Morten Engelstoft has been a member of AP Moller – Maersk for 36 years, holding a long tenure with Maersk Line and other brands, including postings in the US, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore and Italy.

In 2007, he was appointed as COO for Maersk Line, a role he held until 2014, when he was appointed as CEO of APM Shipping Services, as well as CEO of Maersk Tankers. In 2016, he was appointed as CEO of APM Terminals, and one year later he became a member of the executive board of AP Moller – Maersk.
