APL applies a Heavy Weight Surcharge

With immediate effect till 04 Oct 2018, APL will apply a Heavy Weight Surcharge (HWT) to all Tariff and Service Contract rates within the following scope:

Applicable for shipments originating from Asia; Australia; East Africa; New Zealand; Middle East; West Asia to U.S./Canada moving under carrier haulage by motor, rail/motor where carrier is providing chassis at CY, the following heavy weight surcharge will apply to all heavy weight shipments governed by this tariff.

Origin: Asia; Australia; East Africa; Middle East; New Zealand; West Asia (1) (2)
Destination: U.S. (Except Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands)

For the purposes of this charge, heavy weight shipments are classified when weight of container cargo gross weight (defined as cargo weight including packaging but excluding container, chassis and traction unit) exceeds weights levels listed herein:

  • 20 ft dry container that has a cargo weight above 38,140 lbs, 17.3 metric tons
  • 40 ft dry container that has a cargo weight above 44,313 lbs, 20.1 metric tons
  • 40 ft high cube dry container that has a cargo weight above 44,092 lbs, 20.0 metric tons
  • 45 ft dry container that has a cargo weight above 44,092 lbs, 20.0 metric tons

Destination: Canada
