Four major global organisations have announced the formation of Torus Defence Supply Chain, a new alliance designed to deliver resilient and integrated supply chain solutions to the UK defence sector.
The alliance brings together Amentum, GXO Logistics, Accenture and Maersk, combining capabilities across programme management, logistics operations, digital transformation and global freight movement.
The initiative is aligned with a shift in UK government defence policy toward readiness, supply chain visibility and data exploitation.
Torus is structured to help the sector move beyond just-in-time supply models toward systems built for assured readiness and sovereign capability, responding to an increasingly complex and dynamic threat environment.
Each alliance member contributes a distinct area of expertise. Amentum will lead overall integration and programme management, drawing on more than 60 years of support to UK defence operations across logistics, procurement and programme delivery.
The company currently employs over 6,000 people in the UK and has announced plans to add a further 3,000 over the next four years.
GXO will develop and operate logistics solutions across the alliance, supported by over two decades of aerospace and defence experience and a UK workforce exceeding 60,000 across 450 sites.
Its recent acquisition of Wincanton further deepens its UK defence credentials. Accenture will lead digital enablement and integrated decision support, applying its experience across more than 20 NATO countries to deliver real-time visibility and AI-powered decision making.
Maersk will provide global integrated movement solutions, leveraging its multimodal network and owned asset base to ensure compliance with defence cargo security requirements while maintaining the agility needed to respond to evolving operational demands.
Senior representatives from each organisation emphasised the complementary nature of the alliance’s capabilities and the urgency of building adaptive, data-driven supply chains that can sustain defence readiness across complex global environments.
