Progeco and Altius have opened a new cold storage warehouse at the Port of Bilbao.
The facility is located in the ZAD-3 area. It includes a 300 sqm antechamber for receiving and dispatching cargo, and a 550 sqm storage area with capacity for 1,100 pallets. The warehouse will mainly handle frozen fish, seafood and meat.
Progeco will manage operations. Altius, part of the Davila Group, will lead commercial activities. The project represents an investment of around €1.2 million, with a second phase already planned.
The opening ceremony gathered key industry figures, including representatives from the Davila Group, Progeco and the Bilbao Port Authority.
The new facility expands Progeco’s cold chain footprint at the port. The company has operated in Bilbao since 1985 and introduced its first cold storage facility in 2011. It now manages around 8,000 sqm of temperature-controlled storage, including this latest freezer unit.
Progeco operates 105,000 sqm of logistics space across multiple port areas, combining warehousing and open storage. It also runs dedicated cold stores and a refrigerated container depot, supporting growing demand for temperature-controlled logistics.
The investment strengthens Bilbao’s position as a key hub for perishable cargo in northern Spain. It also supports the development of efficient cold chain services for regional and international trade.
