Alfa Laval will supply its FCM LPG fuel supply system to four new LPG carriers at two major Asian shipyards. The system is known for its efficiency and flexibility, supporting the industry’s shift toward cleaner fuels.
Reliable Technology for Decarbonization
Shipowners are choosing LPG as a lower-emission alternative to conventional fuels. LPG cuts carbon output, reduces SOx, and benefits from a global supply network. Alfa Laval’s systems meet this demand, especially in the gas carrier sector.
Jiangnan Shipyard in China ordered two FCM LPG systems for 50,000 CBM gas carriers owned by a Vietnamese shipping company. Namura Shipbuilding in Japan ordered two more for 87,000 CBM carriers for a Japanese shipowner with global operations. Alfa Laval will deliver the systems in 2026.
“LPG is a strong alternative fuel, and we are proud to enable this transition,” said Peter Sahlen, Head of Marine Separation, Fuel Supply System & Heat Transfer at Alfa Laval. “Our LFSS technology is efficient, flexible, and tailored for each vessel.”
Strong Industry Partnerships
Alfa Laval has worked with Jiangnan and Namura since 2022, supplying fuel systems for multiple LPG projects. Its value lies in both products and long-term service. The company combines technical expertise, lifecycle support, and project customization.
The FCM LPG features a compact design, high energy efficiency, and precise synchronization with the main engine. This makes it a strong choice for dual-fuel operations.
“Alfa Laval’s systems meet our needs for safety, efficiency, and proven performance,” said Sanguo Dong, Technical Director at Jiangnan Shipyard. “Their expertise helps us build competitive, future-ready ships.”

Full LPG Solutions
The FCM LPG is central to Alfa Laval’s LPG portfolio, but not the only offering. On LPG-fueled ships with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Alfa Laval’s PureNOx LS cleans EGR bleed-off water. The company also supplies semi-welded plate heat exchangers, vital for both fuel systems and cargo handling.

“Alfa Laval supports LPG carriers from bow to stern,” added Sahlen. “We deliver fuel systems and technologies that enhance efficiency, safety, and cargo handling.”
