Aidrivers & Terberg complete autonomous terminal truck deployment at Port of Tanjung Pelepas

Aidrivers, in collaboration with Terberg Tractors Malaysia (TTM), announced the successful completion of Phase 2 of autonomous operations at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP).

This marks a significant step forward in integrating autonomous technology into port operations amidst mixed traffic, showcasing innovation in the maritime industry.

Following the achievements of Phase 1, Aidrivers and TTM conducted further rigorous testing, deploying TTM’s Drive-by-Wire ready diesel terminal tractor alongside Aidrivers’ autonomous software solutions.

“In TTM, our mandate is to stay ahead of the available technology and develop a solution for our customers readily to be deployed in their operation. If we can’t do it alone, we join forces with the top tier partner available in the market and offer the most reliable solution to close the gap,” stated Boo Wei Ching, CEO of TTM.

These solutions, including AIOS (Vehicle Navigator), AIFO (Fleet Operator), and AISE (Autonomous Simulation), facilitated seamless integration of autonomous mobility for ground operations across yard and wharf operations.

To ensure the safety and efficiency of autonomous operations, PTP enlisted Hamburg Port Consultants (HPC) as a third-party consultant to validate and assess the implementation. Impressive results prompted Phase 2, allowing for rigorous testing across various operational scenarios and integration with PTP’s infrastructure.

Aidrivers and TTM extend their appreciation to PTP for its invaluable support throughout the project, leveraging its operational experience and technical expertise for seamless integration. The scope of autonomous terminal truck operations now spans end-to-end port operations between the yard and wharf, with regular stakeholder engagements ensuring alignment and commissioning of Aidrivers’ autonomous software.

PTP, Malaysia’s largest transshipment hub, plays a vital role in global connectivity, handling 13 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. Ranked first in Southeast Asia for efficiency and 15th globally for container throughput, PTP provides reliable services to major shipping lines and operators, facilitating extensive connectivity to the global market.

With a commitment to innovation in port logistics, Aidrivers and TTM are poised to drive transformative advancements in maritime operations, shaping the future of the industry.

“Aidrivers is proud to lead the charge in port automation with our successful Phase 2 demonstration at Port of Tanjung Pelepas. This milestone exemplifies our commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI solutions with TTM’s advanced terminal tractors. Our collaboration with key stakeholders and validation by HPC underscores the safety and reliability of our technology. We are poised to scale live autonomous deployments, driving efficiency and sustainability in port operations. Aidrivers is dedicated to pioneering transformative advancements in the maritime industry,” commented Dr. Rafiq Swash, CEO of Aidrivers.
