AGCT welcomes largest vessel to call Rijeka

Maiden call of the CMA CGM ADONIS at AGCT. This new milestone underscores the increasing importance of Rijeka as a strategic gateway for container traffic serving Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Hungary and Central Europe.

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has handled the largest vessel ever to call the Port of Rijeka, the 15,536 TEU CMA CGM ADONIS. The vessel made its inaugural call on July 5, 2025, as part of the OCEAN Alliance’s Asia-Med (MED5) service.

The arrival marks a significant capacity upgrade for Rijeka, as more ultra large vessels like CMA CGM APOLLON, OZIRIS, and HERMES are expected to follow.

“This is another milestone for AGCT and the Croatian port sector,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, chief executive officer, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal.

With recent infrastructure upgrades, including the completion of the first phase of dredging, AGCT can now accommodate ultra large container vessels. The terminal continues to expand its capabilities with plans for Phase 2 dredging, quay extensions, and new rail infrastructure.

“We have the design for Phase 2 dredging underway and proposal for extending the quay line on West side. At the same time, rail works remain on schedule to ensure increasing vessel capacity is matched by landside capability,” said Papagiannakis.
