Abu Dhabi Maritime, part of AD Ports Group, has announced a 62% reduction in marine incidents in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2021.
More specifically, following an agreement between AD Ports Group and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in 2020, Abu Dhabi Maritime was established to govern the development of Abu Dhabi’s maritime sector.
One of Abu Dhabi Maritime’s primary responsibilities has been to ensure strict adherence to international safety standards and best practice operating procedures for waterway usage. Working in close coordination with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and receiving support from local authorities, Abu Dhabi Maritime has played an integral role in disseminating important information to the maritime community and developing robust coastal and marine infrastructure.
These efforts have resulted in an increase in awareness and adherence to maritime regulations, in addition to a significant decline in incidents on the waters of Abu Dhabi, with the latest figures taken during peak waterway activity, according to a statement.
Additionally, the company in collaboration with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Tadweer (Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company), to promote the environmental conservation of Abu Dhabi’s waterways.
Abu Dhabi Maritime and Tadweer are going to establish a framework for exploring collaboration opportunities to ensure the waterways in Abu Dhabi are safe, clean, and free from debris and obstructions, in accordance with local and international safety regulations.
