AD Ports breaks ground on Khalifa Port LPG Terminal

AD Ports Group and Nimex Terminals have broken ground on the UAE’s first private-sector LPG terminal at Khalifa Port.

AD Ports Group and Nimex Terminals have broken ground on the UAE’s first private-sector LPG terminal at Khalifa Port. The project marks a major step in expanding the country’s energy logistics infrastructure.

The companies first announced the terminal in November 2025, alongside plans for an LNG hub. They will build large-scale refrigerated storage and marine handling facilities for propane, butane and LPG mix products. The terminal will handle large, long-haul gas carriers. It will strengthen the UAE’s role in LPG trade between Asia, Africa and Europe.

Phase 1 will include two full-containment refrigerated tanks. One will store 50,000 cbm of propane. The other will store 67,000 cbm of butane. The project will also add four mounded LPG bullet tanks with a combined capacity of 21,000 cbm for mixed products.

Phase 2 will mirror the first stage. It will lift total capacity to about 280,000 cbm.

The partners will also build dedicated LPG jetties with a 16-metre draft. These jetties will handle large LPG carriers efficiently. They expect to commission Phase 1 within 36 months of starting construction.

Saif Al Mazrouei, CEO of the Ports Cluster at AD Ports Group, said the project strengthens Khalifa Port’s position as a regional and international energy gateway. He stressed a focus on execution, safety and long-term value.

Azmat Mahmood, Chairman of Nimex Terminals, said the terminal will create a resilient LPG logistics platform. It will connect global supply with regional demand through Abu Dhabi.

The partners designed the facility to meet high international safety and environmental standards. They selected full-containment tanks and mounded storage to reduce risk and ensure reliability.

Once operational, the terminal will enhance regional energy security. It will offer traders and industrial users more flexibility. It will also support Khalifa Port’s growth as a multi-commodity hub.
