ACT to host Trans Middle East 2018

Furthering its contributions to realizing His Majesty’s vision of transforming Aqaba into a logistical regional hub, Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), operated by APM Terminals, will be hosting the 15th annual Trans Middle East Exhibition and Conference.

This annual event of organized by the Transport Events and is considered one of the largest and most important annual transport and logistics exhibitions in the region. This year’s event will take place in Aqaba from October 23 to 25 with the valued support Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).

Crucial role for the economy

Over the years, Aqaba has experienced remarkable growth and has been one of the key drivers of Jordanian economy. The award-wining ACT container terminal is handling close to 900,000TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) per annum with a strong workforce composed of 99.6% national Jordanians and plays a crucial role for the economy, enabling growth and development regionally.

The conference will welcome delegations of world-class executives and business leaders, representing more than 300 international companies from the transport and logistics sector at large. This will include an array of industry specialists such as cargo owners, importers and exporters, freight forwarders, logistics specialists, terminal operators, port equipment and service suppliers as well as international financial institutions such as the European Bank of Development and Reconstruction (EBRD) or Agence Française de Developpement (AFD).

Most revered experts in the transport and logistics industry such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology Prof. Sheffi, Director of the MIT Center for Transport and Logistics, Wolfgang Lehmacher, World Economic Forum Head of Transport and Logistics industries, Sue Barrett, EBRD Head of Transport sector or Michael Bouari, CEO of 1-Stop will share their views on the strategic need for countries to develop their transport and logistics infrastructure in a manner which is socially and environmentally sustainable, integrated through higher digitalization and ultimately fit to accompany the coming 4th Industrial Revolution.

Industry blockchain initiative

Revolutionary digital platform TradeLens, the open and neutral industry platform underpinned by Blockchain technology and already supported by major industry players and some Port and Customs Authorities of several countries, will be showcased at the conference for the first time in the Levant region.

Commenting on the occasion, Aqaba Container Terminal CEO Steven Yoogalingam said, “Hosting this year’s Trans Middle East Exhibition and Conference in Aqaba is a great honor. It comes as part of a series of ongoing initiatives that we drive with our strategic partners of ADC and ASEZA, to showcase the unique attributes of Jordan.

We believe Aqaba is ideally located and perfectly equipped to perform as the gateway to a promising future Logistics Cluster for the Levant”.  Yoogalingam also pointed out that the upcoming event will significantly benefit the tourism industry as well as the Jordanian commerce and industries.
