ABS and Siemens Digital Industries Software have signed an MOU to accelerate the digital transformation of shipbuilding and maritime classification. The partnership will advance product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and support data-driven decision-making from vessel design through construction and operation.

The collaboration will focus on:

  • Applying Class Rules during 3D ship design

  • Enabling model-based verification and digital twin systems

  • Creating secure data-sharing links between shipyards and Class

  • Conducting joint research and workshops on next-generation shipbuilding tools

The agreement combines ABS’s Freedom™ PLM platform with Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio to meet evolving maritime regulations and support simulation-driven compliance and classification.

Patrick Ryan, ABS CTO, said the partnership will help streamline Class processes and support more data-rich design workflows. Joe Bohman, EVP at Siemens DISW, highlighted the importance of integrating classification into digital ship design and production, calling the collaboration a key step in advancing maritime digitalization.
