ABS has issued an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Seatrium for its next-generation offshore substation design, featuring 500-megawatt OSS modules.
The approval covers Seatrium’s OSS-500A concept, designed to support large-scale offshore wind projects. Offshore substations play a key role in collecting power from wind turbines, converting it to high voltage, and exporting it to shore through subsea cables.
ABS said the AIP confirms the design’s feasibility from both safety and performance perspectives. It also marks an important step in advancing efficient and sustainable offshore wind infrastructure.
Seatrium highlighted that the approval validates its technical capabilities and compliance with international class standards. The company said the design gives customers greater confidence in reliability and quality while supporting greener energy solutions.
ABS brings more than 70 years of offshore experience to renewable energy projects. The classification society continues to assess new technologies that support safe asset management and the global transition to clean energy.
