ABB has completed the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in Spain from Siemens Gamesa. ABB announced the deal in December 2024. The company did not disclose financial terms. The business reported annual revenue of about €145 million for the year ending 30 September 2025.
The acquisition strengthens ABB’s position in renewable power conversion. It expands ABB’s offering in wind, battery storage, and solar power systems.
The portfolio includes wind converters for doubly-fed induction generators, battery energy storage systems, and utility-scale solar inverters. About 400 employees join ABB across Spain, India, China, the United States, and Australia. ABB also acquires two converter factories in Madrid and Valencia. The company has signed a supply and service agreement with Siemens Gamesa.
The deal adds around 46 gigawatts to ABB’s wind-converter service base. It supports the growth strategy of ABB’s Motion business area. Gamesa Electric adds more than 45 years of expertise in power electronics, renewable energy, and customer support.
“ABB’s global reach and Gamesa Electric’s technology give us a strong platform for growth,” said Daniel Gerber, Business Line Manager for Renewable Power at ABB.
The International Energy Agency expects renewable electricity generation to grow by 60% between 2024 and 2030, from 9,900 TWh to 16,200 TWh. Renewables are likely to overtake coal as the world’s largest power source by late 2025 or mid-2026. Solar will drive more than half of that growth. Wind will contribute about 30%.
