Port call optimisation: Two sides of the same coin

Good communications are critical for developing just-in-time ship calls at ports, giving both the lines and port facilities predictability as ships arrive.  To achieve this predictability the industry and academic authors of this paper claim that a new business logic is needed.

In recent years strong emphasis has been placed on port call optimisation to facilitate just-in-time shipping. Diverse initiatives to standardise processes and communications conducted within the port, with visiting ships, and with previous and next ports.
