Ukraine, in 2018, saw a record yield of apples. As a result, the supply of these products increased by at least 150-200,000 tons, which negatively affected prices. According to EastFruit analysts , this year the prices for these fruits have already dropped to a record low for at least the last five years.
According to the data, today, apples in the Ukrainian market go on sale at 4-8 UAH / kg ($ 0.1-0.30 / kg), which is twice as cheap as in April last year and 1.5 times less than the average indicators for last 10 years.
Project experts say this situation was quite predictable.“Despite the fact that the selling season for apples is gradually coming to an end, today there are still quite large stocks of apples in many stores,” Maria Lakeeva, an analyst at EastFruit , commented. “It should be borne in mind that the quality of such apples is already very low. This means that such products are almost impossible to export and they are deposited in the domestic market, which also puts pressure on prices.”
