As Brexit comes closer and closer, the Port of Zeebrugge presents a solution to ease the flow of cargo to and from the UK, despite the additional fees which will be implemented after the Brexit deadline. The Belgian port is suggesting two tools to face the upcoming Brexit storm.
The development of the RX/SeaPort data sharing platform is an initiative of the Zeebrugge port authority and APZI, the Association of Port of Zeebrugge interests. It is a platform which offers a digital connection between all links in the logistical chain.
“After March 29, the platform ensures a minimization of the Brexit impact, by improving the operational efficiency and creating more transparency in the logistical chain.” Wim Fossaert, Commercial Director RX/SeaPort.
The port of Zeebrugge is the centre of excellence for British distribution in Northwestern Europe. Every week more than 70 regular shipping services connect Zeebrugge to UK regions, according to the announcement of the port.
“RX/SeaPort guarantees a chainwide solution for cargo shipped from and to the UK quickly and efficiently. Ferry and shortsea traffic will experience new customs regulations after Brexit. If these are handled digitally and efficiently, we will avoid problems.” Joachim Coens, Gedelegeerd bestuurder MBZ.
WIZARD Export & Import
Supported by the RX/SeaPort, WIZARD offers the illustration of each phase of the logistical process. All the phases of the imports and exports, including booking & pre-announcement, customs declaration, guidelines and procedures for departure and arrival at the terminal, will be visible through WIZARD.
The second tool focuses on ferry transportations. Terminal operators can be notified, through the system, of their cargo arrival. The data is continuously available and will aid to prevent long waiting periods.
“After months of preparation with all the stakeholders, we are very happy to present the first tools of RX/SeaPort to process the UK-cargo digitally after Brexit. This is an optimization of the logistical chain in Zeebrugge and will result in a seamless flow of traffic and cargo.” Marc Adriansens, voorzitter APZI
According to the announcement of the Port of Zeebrugge, RX/SeaPort is a digital platform for logistical companies, terminals, shipping lines and government institutes such as customs and port authorities.
